Mirror Room by Raylab.

At the Watermans Gallery

7 December 2006 – 15 January 2007

Private View Dec 7, 2006 6.30pm-8.30pm.

Mirror Room is a new interactive installation in Watermans gallery, a
hall of mirrors of the digital kind where the visitor’s reflection is
stretched, pinched and squeezed by their position in the space.

What happens: Video feeds continually survey the gallery. As soon as you
enter, your image will be thrown back at you. However, the image won't
be straight, but contorted - much like image in a mirror hall. How it
works: Sensors in the gallery are triggered manipulating the live video
feed constantly.

Mirror Room re-evaluates the visitor’s image of himself/ herself and the
relationship between technology, the body and space. Mirror Room was
created back in 2002 and first featured at Extreme Computing exhibition
that year and is collected here as a retrospective of past playtimes.

About Raylab

Raylab believes that play is central to understanding and developing new
means of communication between people, computers and space. Over the
past 10 years they have worked with interactive media art to produce
interactive installations, events and performances. Their work allows
people to play with moving image, audio, and laser projections,
manipulated by their own movement and touch. They combine electronics,
micro controllers, sensor arrays and computers to control moving image,
audio and lasers projections to make toys and shows. Previous works have
been exhibited at arts and computing festivals, whilst collaborations
have included Jamie Reid, Sensor Band and Audio Rom with whom they
received first interactive Bafta Design Award for ShiftControl. Raylab
are currently working on hivenetworks.net supported by the Arts Council
England and SCAN.
