Hi Michael,
>I think I have quite a childish view of what I'd want

Considering commonalities in respect of how a work reaches others, can
communicate beyond 'art' and its usual or much used historically,
canon-based language. Ironic though, because I think that this type of
process whether it be conscious or not, in a way, could be part of what
art is...
>should summon up both the darkness & the beauty of it all.
I think that perhaps darkness, can sometimes be connected to
vulnerability. Sometimes, I think that darkness has beauty, and it is
something uncontrollable, sometimes feral, untamed, unfettered by
socially controlled, mechanistic protections.
Some of the most enlightening experiences that I have ever had, have
been when in danger. It is not that I want or wish for danger, far from
it. But life kind of expands and brings about more lucid meanings, that
everyday life can make one forget about. I think that danger can shake
things up a bit, help us remember that we are alive.
The incident in the homeless centre woke me, informed me. Not like a
message, but my whole being instantly shifted and my senses and body
felt other things. For a little while at least...

That's an amazing story Marc.
I think I have quite a childish view of what I'd want
to do in art - to show people a bit what it's like
inside my head -on the assumption , I think, that
there's some commonality, that, like reading a good
novel, a shiver will creep down one's spine at a
passage that reflects one's own experience perhaps
with just a few small, but mysterious & significant,
differences,a passage that might point the way to
another way, that is both familiar and intensely
strange, of being human.
The trance like quality of 'corps' for me is a
reflection of just how much I love big cities & in
particular London -I find them captivating and oddly
relaxing palces to be, especially when by myself. Of
course I'm totally aware of the undercurrents of
violence and loss and desperation and inequality that
are there not so far beneath the surface & I'm
intrigued that your reaction to the piece should
summon up both the darkness & the beauty of it all.
I'm grateful to you for your response - both for
itself & also because it makes me feel I'm doing
something right :)
warmest wishes
michael
