[NetBehaviour] Domain name issues - final report -

it is a real bastard to lose a domain like this. i lost one once
because the person who was the billing contact changed email
addresses without updating the info at the domain registry, so never
received the renewal notice. someone else bought it the instant it
expired, i think because it was high-ranking in search engines. i
tried to contact them by email, explaining that the domain name
belonged to a non-profit theatre network who could not afford to buy
it back at an increased price. the person never replied.

we had to purchase a new domain & throw out postcards & stationery
with the old address. alan's email prompted me to see whether there
was something else at the old domain - for years there was nothing
there. interestingly, it's now showing the remnants of our old site,
with broken images & last updated in 2001. maybe it's time i tried
asking for it back again ...

in the meantime i keep a written list of all my domains' expiry dates
& make sure they are all renewed well in advance!
