Hi Richard,
>'with friends like these' was a great article, thanks for that marc.
Cool :-)
The article was originally pointed out to me via Facebook by Ilza Black,
who I am most grateful to.
>whene facebook first surfaced in my life last year i noticed that it
smelled a bit off. although i couldn't put my finger on quite why i just
suspected there was something amiss there. so i put it permanently on
the backburner, for which i was once memorably branded a 'sweet old
hippy' by a colleague
I have been using Facebook, mainly because I take it on as part of my
work so to know more about how these things work. I have always been
interested how social groups work together online, mainly independent
ones or art related groups using networks to communicate to each other
and share ideas and promote their work.
I think that it is always healthy to be suspicious of web 2.0 social
networking facilities, and large platforms such as Second Life. I also
do not think that it's hippy'ish to to be questioning, I feel that such
healthy scepticism can sometimes raise useful questions that many are
too eager to ignore.
Even with this new adventure for Netbehaviour (www.netbehaviour.ning) I
am suspicious, but as mentioned before; it is important to active and
get things happening and jump into areas not immediately known, but be
conscious at the same time.

Regarding collaborations with Netbehaviour artists, there are some more
in the pipeline. Even potential of more DIWO collaborations in 2008. But
I also think even when people collectively explore systems such as a
social networking tool/platform as Ning together, some interesting and
exciting things can happen.
Hopefully some others on here join us on Ning, so to be part of building
a new independent culture that is free, adventurous and dynamic in
sharing and creating even more dynamic media art that is not following
those groups who are making artists pay to be part of something creative.
wishing you well.
