The First staging of a dedicated day of all things digital design with
installations and interactive elements to please everyone. Come and
get your hands on the latest technology and be inspired by a range of
demonstrations and performances from across the digital community.
Digital Design Day is scheduled to include a 2-hour session run by
Apple on techniques, tips and insights. The day concludes with the
Y-Design Awards; a celebration of the best creative talent in the UK's
digital community.
Between 1.15-2.15pm, Martyn Ware presents a showcase of innovation in
interactivity and digital media.
Martyn is best known as a seminal 80s pop icon and co-founder of The
Human League and Heaven 17. However, through the <<Illustrious
Company>> - his recent creative venture with Vince Clarke of Depeche
Mode, Yazoo and Erasure - and his current Arts Council supported
convergent art project, the <<Future Of Sound>>, Martyn has been
working with and and showcasing some of the latest developments in
convergent media and emergent technologies. For Digital Design Day he
invites a selection of inventive practitioners to share and discuss
their work - guests include:
Eva Rucki - co-founder of <<Troika>> - a multi-disciplinary art and
design practice.
Mike Faulkner of <<D-Fuse>> - a collective of London based artists who
explore a wide range of creative media.
<<Andy Huntington>> - an interaction design consultant specialising in
software and hardware prototyping and development.
Fiddian Warman - Managing Director and a <<Soda>> founder who has
steered the company's evolution in developing creative tools that help
communities work, play and learn together.

CYBERSONICA AV LAB
Sunday, 2nd - Sunday, 9th November
The Basement, Argus Lofts, 24 Kensington St, Brighton, East Sussex BN1 4AJ
<<avlab.cybersonica.org>>
CALL FOR PARTICIPATION
As part of our programme for 2008 Cybersonica is collaborating with
the Future of Sound and <<Lighthouse>> & with the support of <<The
Basement>> and <<SCAN>> to develop the AV Lab - a week-long
residential creative & practical workshop exploring sound, moving
image, art and technology - funded by the National Lottery through the
Arts Council England. This will take place at The Basement , Argus
Lofts, 24 Kensington St, Brighton, East Sussex BN1 4AJ from Sunday,
2nd - Sunday, 9th November 2008.
The Future Of Sound 08-09 Tour is a national showcase for the latest
developments in music, sound and convergent art to six arts and campus
venues across the UK between November 08 - April 09: including De La
Warr Pavilion, Bexhill on Sea; De Montfort University, Leicester; and
the BFI IMAX, London. Cybersonica are tour residents - and so to make
the most of this opportunity and ensure Cybersonica?s contribution is
inventive and collaborative we?re creating an experimental, playful
space in which the themes Future Of Sound explores can be tried and
tested in practice beforehand.
The AV Lab will bring together a group of 8-12 participants, a small
delivery team of 3-5 active practitioners and a mix of guest
contributors from the Cybersonica/Future Of Sound networks with unique
outlooks and specialist skill sets. The workshop will make practical
use of the Illustrious 3D-AudioScape surround sound system,
Lighthouse?s training expertise, network and resources and numerous
examples of the creative application of technology in immersive media
and convergent art.
The AV Lab aims to:
- focus on live, audiovisual performance that explores
crossdisciplinary collaboration and the use of new technologies;
- create a framework in which musicians/DJs/electronic music makers
and visualisers working in film/animation/motion graphics/photography
can share their work, realise new technological possibilities, be
inspired, challenged and stretched, develop new ideas and collaborate
with others;
- support, document and disseminate the developmental creative process
that enables this all to happen.
We're looking for participants that are genuinely interested in
exploring new forms and approaches to live audiovisual performance -
moving away from the keyboard, mouse and screen and into the physical
realm. We're interested in practitioners who can demonstrate a strong
awareness of both the aural and the visual and a desire to explore the
interplay between them. We're in equal need of people with a strong
conceptual sensibility as those with developed technical ability -
overall we hope to convene a group with a wide range of outlooks,
perspectives and skills. Most of all we're trying to find people with
ideas in need of collaborators to help them be realised. If this
sounds like you then we'd really like to hear from you.
We're now accepting applications from artists and practitioners who
would like to participate in the AV Lab and in future Cybersonica and
the Future Of Sound programming. We're open to interest from non UK
residents but will only be able to contribute towards travel within
the UK.
