hi ruth,
not sure exactly what you want to do, but a couple of useful tools i've
found lately are etherpad & opengoo.
actually etherpad is not open source, but it's pretty cool for
quick&dirty real time collaborative text editing - & makes a nice
performance when you have multiple people changing the text at the same
time with different colours. there's a text chat window & a few other
bits & pieces but it's pretty lean & easy. http://etherpad.com/
opengoo is an open source online project management app, it doesn't have
a live chat or collaboration component (that i've found yet) but it
allows you to upload & share documents, & has stuff like calendars &
task lists & so on. http://opengoo.org/
but if you want more real-time meeting & collaboration, i don't know of
a floss app for that, would be interested to know what you find out.
