FLOSS Manuals might also be a good place to look - it's a repository of 
open source software manuals a lot of which are artists tools, & there 
is quite a lot of material within various manuals about the communities 
& culture around the projects, e.g. "An Open Web" 
(http://en.flossmanuals.net/an-open-web/) & "Collaborative Futures" 
(http://www.booki.cc/collaborativefutures/)
