Hi,
I've just spent a short while performing maintenance of my "net-art"
piece "The CSSNAKETRIX" from 2008. It uses HTML and CSS to
generate layered/repetitious visual-poetry-like displays of
text/characters.
One of my concerns about this piece was the potential strain on the
server as the entire thing was running server-side with the PHP
scripts generating (at times) 750kb of HTML.
To lessen my concern I've now implemented the HTML generation code in
Javascript - which means Javascript is now a requirement to view the
piece. A typical CSSNAKETRIX page served is now around 5kb. The
HTML generation code is now implemented in Javascript on *YOUR*
computer.
It's not exactly user friendly, but if you explore it enough you'll
find you can generate 2000x4000 pixel images, as well as add your own
creations to the 'gallery'.
