The Official Protestors of the Olympics.
A satirical take on the sponsorship of the Games.
Getting into the sporting sprit of claiming ownership of one element of
the Olympics and then flogging a concept off the back of it are the
Official Protesters of the London 2012 Olympics Games. Master-minded by
Space Hijackers, who describe themselves as Anarchitects ‘dedicated to
battling the constant oppressive encroachment onto public spaces of
institutions, corporations and urban planners’ their mission statement
is to bring to public view the less palatable aspects of the way the
Olympics have been managed.
The website features smiling members modeling the company T-shirts in a
parody of the happy-clappy photos that proliferate on the official
sponsor websites (Cadbury provides some fine examples). In a similarly
satirical vein, it helpfully states that they “don't want you to miss
the opportunity to celebrate and be inspired”- by taking part in the
protest, that is.
