It's a set of characters and situations that can be explored in 
different combinations for a given audience. It's stretching things a 
bit to compare it to a Hypercard stack, but it's a useful historical 
example of a generative narrative.

I guess verbal storytelling tailored to whoever is around the fire is an 
even older example.
