Metaphor of the Blind looks into the thought of philosopher Jacques
Derrida through the prism of artistic practice. Blindness operates as a
metaphor connoting lack of agency. The project reflects on the
disability to resolve contemporary social and political exigencies. The
political blind alley (impasse) is examined through the mirror's
manoeuvre in the work of Georgia Sagri. The artist "deconstructs" the
Greek Parliament through the looking glass, so as to reveal what is
behind the mirror and its screen. The mirror becomes the agency of
political reflection.

The Philosophy Department at the School of Philosophy, Faculty of
Philosophy, Pedagogy and Psychology of the University of Athens in
collaboration with the French Institute of Greece co-organise the
Conference Jacques Derrida’s Political and Ethical Thought, from
Thursday 24th of January 2013 till Saturday 26 January 2013 at the
Ampitheatre “Argiriadi” (New Amphitheatre) at the Central Venue of the
University of Athens (Panepistimiou 30) and at the French Institute of
Athens.

The Conference hosts 40 delegates from different scientific disciplines
( philosophy, political theory, psychoanalysis, architecture,
literature, etc) and covers a wide span of Jacques Derrida‘s ethical and
political concepts, like: democracy, law, philoxenia, gift (offering),
forgiveness, justice, decision, responsibility, morality and animals, etc.

On Friday 25/1 at the French Institute of Athens, 19:00-22:00, two
