[NetBehaviour] &moRe: 5 carrots on a surface // sycamore leaves

I was going to say this before then I didn't because I wasn't sure whether it sounds incredibly pompous but I'm quite interested in just how little of a surface one can cover with marks and still make the whole surface somehow alive. I tried to do this consciously with the carrots and also with the earlier banana piece:

In one case the "bare" surface is newsprint; in the other rather nice mulberry paper. Somehow connected is my choice of domestic or everyday subjects and also the fact that I'm using really quite big and unwieldy brushes - it means any sort of detail is fairly hard won. There's also, in the case of the carrots, the quasi "bad-photographic" cropping. The japanese paints are simply delicious to use but really unpredictable; I'm not remotely intereted in learning any traditional techniques associated with them though. I *love* drawing/painting  - I'm really interested in figuration, I'm also fairly obsessed with 60s conceptualism and I'm quite interested in performance. I hope the drawings somehow have a little flavour of each of these though maybe I'm kidding myself..
