Hi
On Thursday 16th March, 7.00-8.30pm, we have a special event at Access
Space.
This week we began hosting a residency with Chinese maker, Quinting Hu. She
will be with us until the 23rd of March looking at repair culture,
exploring Sheffield's creative scene and working on projects at Access
Space.
At the event on Thursday, Quinting will give a presentation about the
maker culture in Shenzhen, and talk about her stay so far in the UK. This
will be followed by a Q & A and a discussion about the experiences of women
makers and entrepreneurs in the maker and start-up scene in Sheffield.
Quinting's stay in Sheffield is part of Hello Shenzhen, a bilateral
residency exchange programme connecting makers in the UK and China. It is a
partnership between the British Council, The Shenzhen Foundation for
International Exchange and Cooperation and Shenzhen Open Innovation Lab.
Ten Shenzhen-based makers have been selected to take part in three week
long residencies with some of the UK’s leading makerspaces and creative
organisations. They bring with them a wide range of expertise, from
industrial design to mechanical engineering as well as providing insights
into the unique culture of making and manufacturing in Shenzhen.
The Hello Shenzhen residencies cover a variety of themes including
disability, maker education, community development, sustainability and
repair culture. The makers are hosted by Access Space, Central Research
Laboratory, FACT, Impact Hub Westminster, Lighthouse, Machines Room and
Makerversity. They will work with their host organisation on specific
projects involving collaboration with local makers, designers, academics,
startups and creative organisations.
