i shape the contour, fingers strain to produce what i'm hearing
internally, desperate to mind the gap, stretch from one string
to the other, the bow between them, caught up in the instrument
itself. there are so many possibilities here, ranging from the
sonority of a violin to cat bird singing. i move among them;
there's no way i could pretend to classical playing. instead i
create circulations among things i've heard in my mind, where
everything is perfectly in pitch, where it's almost as if i were
capable of shattered and sutured worlds. there's nothing but bow
and two strings. i change its tension my fingers separating
horsehair from bow; at one point, i turn the screw fast,
bringing the tension up in order to produce the surfaces of the
imaginary i'm shape-riding, i'm circulating, i'm inhabiting.
there is always the sound itself; am i letting everything down
in this regard. i don't know, i've moved on to the next figure,
next position, remembering the ruptured melodic arches that
remark me on the way to certain dissolution.
