"they dance so well they catch up with their dance"
until death catches them in the skein of being, as if
the dying lobster felt nothing in its bound claws
that had served her well for foraging

or him, that had caught up with her claws, as time appears
henceforth and to the end of things, their breathing, now
that death looms, painful and suffocating, they learn
to speak us, as we bring death, perhaps, everywhere

above or below the seas, seized with trash and hungry boats
salvaging what they can for humans stuttering last beauty
from lost beauty, the authority of the invisible, of aghast
avatar, procured by words or code, as if this monstrous

poetics of form and loss, deformed itself, unformed, caught
at last in the maelstrom of despair hidden by these lines
