but the atmosphere is the same, the instrument expelled from the
musician, who can't bear the separation; he dreams of suicide,
of loss of wood and body, gut and metal, strings assigned in a
wayward or contrary manner; the musician, he dreams of a perfect
structure, perfect organism; he remembers dance. he remembers
dance for example. the project of the musician is this memory of
dance and a body freed of wood, gut, and metal, a body no longer
bound by humidity, a body free and open in any kind of weather.
but there is always this uncomfortable separation; at night,
asleep, his hands search for the loveliness of the viola, what
beauty lies just within and without it, and he is part of that
neighborhood.
