Thanks Edward that’s a lovely, encouraging, sympathetic reading which makes me happy! I’m reluctant to ever ‘interpret’ or propose a programme for my own work but the state of the natural world which I love and ,of course, fear for was high in my mind as I painted. You’re kind about my blues - the thing, though, that brings me nearest to smugness is the procession of tiny bees from hive to ceanothus :) cheers! Michael

This is really nice! You've managed to differentiate the blue of the sky from the blue of the sea, and both of them from the blue/purple of the ceanothus, very nicely, which takes a bit of doing. I love the shapes: the packed-in shapes in the boat, and the separateness and whiteness of the albatross. But the composition is also packed with associations: the Owl and the Pussycat; a hint of Noah's Ark; and the Rime of the Ancient Mariner.
