What: Constant is looking for a new colleague!
When: Respond before May 1

Constant is looking for a person (f/x/m) to join the current team one day a
week starting September 1, 2021. The new person contributes to the
development of the association’s program through her/his digital art and
experimental practice, while engaging with feminist and intersectional
perspectives. For Constant, it is important that the candidate pay
particular attention to collaboration, sharing and the transfer of
knowledge as might happen in the culture of Free, Libre and Open Source
software.

What: Residency Spectral Desire Paths, Open Call
When: Deadline 30 April

Spectral Desire Paths is a collaboration between an arts organization
(Constant), a technology company (Sensolus) and a research group (Urban
Species). Constant connects collective artistic work with free software and
intersectional feminist thinking. Sensolus makes geolocative tracking tools
for globally based companies. Urban Species develops action research on
participation and urbanity.

We are offering a residency for an artist, designer, collective, occasional
formation or other artistic constellation who is / are willing to develop
an artistic project in the first phase of SDP using the technology of
Sensolus. Sensolus makes location and environmental sensing tracking
devices that can be attached to large objects. Think for example of sea
containers or tow bars or trolley or other objects that have no battery or
energy source of their own. Via an online platform, the objects can be
followed, mapped and managed. Features include the ’0G protocol’, a data
integrity algorithm and a long battery life allowing objects to be tracked
even when they are off grid for several months. On datalevel, features
include localization and activity data and different types of analytics
build upon these data.

What: Worksession Down Dwars Delà #1, Open Call
Where: Eben Ezen tower, Bassenge (BE)
When: Deadline 15 May, session from Monday July 12 -> Saturday July 17

What: Worksession Down Dwars Delà #2, Open Call
Where: Bidston Observatory, Liverpool (UK)
When: Deadline 15 May, session from Monday August 2 -> Sunday 7 August

The aim of the TWO Down Dwars Delà worksessions is to collectively assemble
and study a tools-not-box (see it more as a jumble of tools than a neatly
ordered toolbox) in which we bring together techniques, rituals, protocols
and technologies for non-intrusive, non-extractivist, intra-vertical
observation with the narrative worlds they make. This compilation of
devices would allow us to narrate the two sites according to other criteria
and to make space for (un)making sense of the stories formulated by and
about the Bidston Observatory and the Eben-Ezer tower. Working and thinking
with natural resources as starting point, we take the extractive
technologies of colonialism to be a major part of the way we relate to
Nature, and to ecologies of nature. Not in least due to these worldviews
having produced "N"ature itself. It’s the intention then, to begin from
intimate, sentient/spiritual or discursive relations within/to the two
(un)natural environments.

Down Dwars Delà #1: Eben Ezer Tower + Silex Museum

During this week we will be working around the Eben-Ezer tower. This
building was constructed just after the second world war, as a monument
against all forms of violence. It is completely built from flintstone
/silex, which was quarried in part from the mine on top of which the tower
is built. The tower is filled with mythological figures symbolising a quest
for peace. The week is set up as a collective residency. We will camp on
site and conduct collective inquiries that feed into existing or emerging
artistic projects. Participants might be interested in thematics such as
for example: listening to the stars, observing the underground.
Technologies of the imaginary / imaginary technologies. Personal monuments,
towerology, feminist geology, ancient (pre)historic signs and symbols.
Non-extractive mining. Radio, bats, disturbances, vibrations, and darkness.
Natural resources and its dis-accordance with military industry. Rewriting
her/his/stories. Revisit peace-earth iconography. Anti-extractive
computation.

Down Dwars Delà #2: Bidston Observatory

The location of the 2nd week of worksessions is Bidston Observatory just
outside Liverpool, United Kingdom. This former observatory has functioned
as a center for artistic research since 2017 (Bidston Observatory Artistic
Research Centre). The building’s domes used to house telescopes, and its
basements – from which the walls of the building itself were excavated –
has a bedrock connectionpoint that was used for observing seismic
activities. Most of the instruments which were in the observatory have been
relocated to museums, however we can consider the observatory as an
instrument in itself, with evidences of its utility encased in
architecture. As with many material evidences of techno-industrial
progress, the observatory is very much part of a history of capitalist
endeavor, exploitation, colonialism and slavery. The building, the location
and its histories will be part of the investigations that will be developed
throughout this session. At present, BOARC works to set up a heritage
space, dedicated to local and expanded histories which intertwine on the
site. Part of this work necessarily looks at raising questions of
accumulating, archiving and catalogueing.

We warmly invite conflicted artists, designers, (non)experts in
oceanography, geography, dendrology, botany, biology and more to join us.
Participants can expect fulfilling collaborative practices, exchanges of
knowledge and experience, some time to work on their own related projects
(if they have one) and/or finding new threads and relations to start off a
new project.
