it's a long haul from there to there, the trucks are full of
soldiers, each truck with a group of men, each man armed as the
trucks cross the plaza and make a left into the interrogation
camps where slowly the spirit of a people is massacred as if
there were a single or singular spirit, which of course there is
not. onward and onward with the banging of pots and pans and
effigies held up and spat on as if that diminished something of
the power of powerful men. sound rose like flames and sirens,
some call it music, no one remembers the last time they heard a
tune. it was like a rope, they said, curled around itself, have
you any idea how that would be something of use, except to
cordon off no place from no place. they behaved like that all of
them who were behaved to be what they were told to be inside of
where they were. the sound was constant and thick. some of them
could sing it for the rest of their lives, those who survived,
although there was nothing to remember, and their stories were
the same as any other.
