Early Elit

The first works I did re: Elit per se were done on a TI59
calculator around 1976-7. The first interactive works were done
on a Terak mini-computer around 1978-9. The programs were
designed to frustrate the writer, modifying the text as he or
she continued to write. Sometimes the writing was hijacked
completely, sometimes it was reiterated in other ways. I
published the work while teaching at University of California,
Irvine; the image is from that, as is the pdf. I still find this
work of interest because of its odd interference patterning and
what this might mean for online/offline writing in general.
