The area of Lilliput is defined by probably a few 100 square
meters no more no less. It exists between two streets a short
block in One Direction and maybe I don't know 25 yards or 20
yards in another direction. It's the borderline between a
parking lot and a street. It's only within the area of 1 block
and when I think of it I think of it in a sense of a dream as if
anything can be projected in there and anything can be removed.
So what is this ? It's an odd sort of place I think of it as
something that only comes into focus when I'm working there with
Azure or when I'm working there by myself this is the area where
the slime molds were found this is the area where the aphids and
the Wasps and the ladybugs were found along with caterpillars
and other creatures engaged in an internal and external war.
This is an area where there's some rabbits or at least one
rabbit that we see repeatedly that looks out into the
environment. This is the area that dreams are made from because
the creatures there are all interrelated on the scale and
complexity I can only imagine. In fact I can't imagine the scale
and complexity at all. The camera picks up some details and
leaves others out of course like any other camera but some of
the details here I am sure would be extraordinarily different on
this scale of a scanning electron microscope which I've used
before. Here I have no access to anything like that. I'm just
working from intuition. Azure does a lot of the photography and
I do a lot of the follow up and follow through and we both do
identification where that seems useful and possible. But I tend
to think of the area because it is so small as an almost
dreamlike space . It's vulnerable there's people who go through
it one way or another and occasionally we find wholesale
destruction of whatever it was we were looking at. This occurs
more frequently than I would like. It's remarkable that we can
find these things in the middle of a city . There are also some
rare birds there. There's rare objects from things that look
like molds or discolorations of the ground that I have no idea
what's going on there. I know something is there and I can't
figure it out. It's as if nature were obdurate . It's it's it's
as if nature where destructuring itself becoming anomalous
becoming blurred in a very time and space that we're making it
more articulated more present more in focus. Says some time it's
obdurate, impervious, inarticulate in any scale of space or time
we have reasonable access to. Sometimes we return and everything
is different and sometimes we return and we can no longer find
ourselves. I'm located there, highly allergic and nervous, and
we touch as little as we can. Surprisingly, no one asks what we
are doing, and we don't offer that information as well. We're
visible invisible. We're here and not here, there and not there.
We come with one, sometimes two cameras, that's all. We don't
gather specimens, but examine them in situ. We give obeisance to
Jonathan Swift. We follow in his footsteps in the world of the
irreal, uncanny real, specific and well-defined real, surreal
and the dreams of that, the thoughts of that. I haven't dreamed
any of this. Sometimes I dictate and sometimes I do not
sometimes I walk around my writing and sometimes I leave it
behind. Sometimes my writing leaves itself behind and leaves me
behind. Sometimes my writing I think of as a small island
articulated not by myself but by millions and billions of
creatures that I don't understand and never will. Give me all
the information about slime molds and molds and ladybugs in the
world and I still will not have exhausted anything. I still will
not have understood anything more than I understand now.
