Re: Plague Fall (Alan Sondheim)

The video a fully immersive experience.

A dark Solaris and strangely I saw rodents (Lots) Were they there?

The initial sound seemed like an othercuture othertimes chant for the dead, then rose, or fell, fantastically into here and now.

I do get the philosophy of offering nothing at all, yet will point out the video is an offering and it is effective and affecting and it does give satisfaction by mirroring the inexplicable; and for me is a deep and relevant experience. Thank you.

Quick note on brighter hopes, arrived from a poetry list I'm on.  Never knew of it till today:

Virus Diary: Day 4, Day 44 of Isolation
Abu Dhabi

Deep in the night, time dissolves and what is important seems to materialize.
On a planet somewhere in a vast multiverse, the significance of things comes into place.
On the macro, the matter is small. At the micro- the setting is sublime.
Love is hard to see from a billion light years away; it might be a macroscopic issue, but from six centimeters away it seems to encompass the whole.
Seeing the sun, one wants to walk in it; seeing the fires from orbit, one wants to hold each other and the moment.
This is the brightside politic; the dancing of nurses and the hero's cheer as mortality is challenged; fighting for another day of silence, in breath, in space.
We need as many as can be found; Bravery is to stare forward and move into the moment.
What a magical thing it is to be alive. Period.
As Feynmann once said, it inconceivable to imagine the incredible nature of nature.
The Wheel of the Buddhists turns; the cosmic dance of star-stuff continues.
Trying to spin counterclockwise
Robbing the sphere of its angular momentum
Slowing its spin a tiny bit
Lengthening the night, pushing back the day.
Giving me be a little more time with you. (re: xkcd)

plague fall

http://www.alansondheim.org/plaguefall.jpg
https://youtu.be/-y54z4rIRMg VIDEO

2:51 AM (2 hours ago)

Really it's the banality of everything the fact that everything
exists within the frame that the frame itself is seething one way
or another that it doesn't have any real internal structure except
the darkened areas seem as if they would go on forever and in fact
I thought of them in the sense while looking at the interior of my
eyelid as a kind of screen on which is projected nothing but
murmurings or scatterings nothing but shufflings.  If there's a
philosophy behind this it's one of scattered notes as well as just
asides to things just things being written on the margins or rims
of uselessly turning wheels of the exhausted machinery. As if the
cyborg itself - that's something to which no one draws attention to
- and the self, the work that is being done by the virus is
something that might occur in any small town anywhere. So it's
whisperings or a small-town newspaper that goes nowhere that says
nothing to people who are going nowhere or saying nothing. And this
is the kind of philosophy that emerges in the time of crisis. And
this is the kind of video that emerges in the time of crisis as
well. I'd like to say that there's more to it than this, then it
might even be a question of evoking a new language. Philosophers
are always talking about new language and new terminology. But in
fact it's the fact that the words and the videos are so worn out
that makes them powerful. That makes them resonate with the times.
That makes them carry forth, or confusions are eruptions are
partial sentences are hanging onto whatever is left of our
humanness. I recognize humanness itself doesn't even belong here as
a concept other than as a group of people who are at the moment,
are in need very often of hospitalization or somehow calming. But I
can't offer solace and who would I be if I could offer anything.
This is a philosophy of not offering anything at all. This is a
philosophy in other words of inadequacy of nothing but the frame
with its spoiling and repetitive imagery,

as if a forgery

Hello Alan,

I'm David viey and i remember you from your passage in London and you
presentation at furtherfield... I'm the french guy how sat there trying to
stay quite.... I like your work with second life and have more questions
about in the future... I usualy do the door at exploding cinema show.. my
technical competences are not very good.

To submit to EC, the film have to be less than 20min... But shorter is
better..

for the format, I'm not very good a that, we are using VLC player
something like 700/something....

I will say if you had something other than mp4. It will make it easier to
re-render to our format....  We will boardcast through zoom...

We are also thinking of using OBS (open boardcast service...) Have you got
any experience or knowledge of it?

While I'm there just out of curiosity... Is it possible to recreate a pride
March on second life with 1000 individual avatar.... So far i haven't been
able to log on to second life.... Long time ago I had friends how had a
band on second life call RED ZONE... In theory you could have an avatar and
go and see their performance... The only thing a could manage a the time
was to see a recording on YouTube.... This is not exploding cinema
related... Just something to get me going...

Thank for you time and patience

A plus

David viey.

PS: when you submit you film, if your is put in the show the programmer
will get in touch with you otherwise the film go in the queue....

I wouldn't know how to create a Pride March in SL; you might ask online? I
don't work with avatars that way. Yes, I've done performances in SL with
audiences; I also put the work up on YouTube which reaches a large audience
of course.

I can submit easily in Mp4; can you submit more than one?

The format's easy enough; I record at 29+fps so playback at 30 is fine.

More soon, started looking around.

Best!, Alan, and I do remember you I think! I love Furtherfield!
